About the John Locke Institute
The John Locke Institute is dedicated to encouraging the brightest and most talented students to pursue academic ambition. Through on-campus courses, lectures, essay competitions, and special events, the Institute motivates students to set high aspirations and provides them with the skills needed to achieve their goals.
The Institute is named in honor of the 17th-century Oxford philosopher John Locke, the father of classical liberalism. Locke’s influence in the United States is as profound as it is in Britain. As the ideal Renaissance man, Locke was a philosopher, political theorist, economist, and physician—a thinker and a doer. We respect his educational philosophy: a teacher “should consider his work as not so much to teach all the knowledge that can be known, but to implant in his pupils a love and esteem of knowledge and to excite in them a due care to improve themselves."
In the spirit of John Locke, the Institute offers educational courses in philosophy, politics, economics, history, psychology, and law. These courses are designed to provide students with new ideas and challenge old habits of thought. They offer methods and encouragement to refine and develop independent thinking, foster reasoning skills, and cultivate a critical and analytical mindset. Most importantly, they aim to instill a love of learning that we hope our students will carry with them throughout their lives.
In 2022, the official acceptance rate for the John Locke Institute was only about 20%, while the acceptance rate for Oxbridge Global Connect students was as high as 90%! Our students, from top schools in the UK, the US, Australia, and Canada, have successfully made it to the highly competitive John Locke competition. Last year, our students achieved remarkable results: second place globally in Law, third place globally in Politics, and high awards in Economics, Psychology, Philosophy, Theology, History, and the Junior category.
